Numerous achievements in Cyrus McCormick’s business career provide “penetrating insights into the forces which transformed American agriculture from an activity employing 75 percent of the labor force in 1820 to a capital intensive industry employing 5 percent of the labor force in 1968” (Cyrus McCormick International Harvester Company).
